Our Role

Our mission is to foster excellence in the delivery of vision and eye health services in Saskatchewan by providing information, programs, and services that promote and enhance Optometry, and by licensing and regulating the delivery of optometric care.

The Saskatchewan Association of Optometrists (SAO), established in 1909, serves as the provincial voice of Optometry by promoting quality eye health care and the importance of complete vision and eye health examinations. This includes producing and distributing informative, educational messages and materials to the public, the media, government, and other key health organizations.

SAO is also responsible for licensing and regulating the practice of Optometry in Saskatchewan. We protect the public by upholding and enforcing the highest standard of optometric eye care available.
